Gascon style
our red wine

TANNAT

Its entrenchment in Gascony and its strong identity contribute to the personality of the reds, giving them a richly deep colour and vigour where a noble astringency is combined with tannic firmness. Its aromas are those of red fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) and candied fruits.

MERLOT

Associating various scents, mostly fruity (cherry, blackberry) and floral, its aromatic palette is appreciated in terms of its well roundedness.

CABERNETS FRANC ET SAUVIGNON

These two varieties contribute to the tautness of the reds by the intensity of their fruitiness (perfumes of raspberry, redcurrant, violet) and the relief of a fine tannic texture.

The only red variety that is indigenous to the region and dominating the assortment of grape varieties planted, the Tannat is reputed for its structured character, also we often call on Merlot to obtain more flexible and generously fruity wines, a quest for a majority of the reds.

Developed to make the most of the gourmet intensity of the fruit, wines with this profile are abundant in the Bas-Armagnac area, also well suited for the whites.

Elsewhere, the nature of the terroirs allows uncompromising, if not ambitious expressions where the complementary Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon highlight the richness of texture and the silky tannins.

FLEXIBLE

LIGHTWEIGHT

With an immediate and attractive approach, the style for the most part of the Gascon reds comfortably finds its place in the numerous pairings with everyday or ‘bistro’ recipes.

Their lively and crisp character also encourages a desire to ‘come back’ and reinforces an almost universal vocation as a wine for casual drinking pleasure.

Born from the terroirs most gifted for the colour, the more elaborate wines take advantage of their extra substance and structure to honour generous dishes, such as the local southwest specialities where the duck is king.

More widely, grilled meats, roast or in a sauce are the perfect combination for the reds with pronounced tannins

The climate

unique conditions

The climate of Gascony results from influences of its geographical horizons that combine to benefit the expressiveness and the balance of the wines.

As such, the contribution of oceanic moisture and Mediterranean temperatures driven by an easterly wind, acts on the continental character of the local climate and temperate conditions, without extremes.

Additionally, the thermic differences between day and night, notably during the maturation of the grapes, accentuates an aromatic potential that the Gascon winegrowers know how to reveal thanks to their accomplished work.
